Bruce Lamont – Feral Songs For The Epic Decline

Releasedate: 25-01-2011; Label: At A Loss Recordings
By: Sabine van Gameren

Bruce Lamont, a man from Chicago (USA), has been known as a vocalist and saxophonist for several Metal projects. In 2006 he came with his debut solo album and “Feral Songs For The Epic Decline” is a following up on that.

Actually this release is a two part of some tracks that have been recorded in 2007 and some that are recorded in 2010. He blended them into one album. What you can expect is some atmospheric material. Drones, but also a brighter sound can be found in here. Of course the use of instruments can be diverse. It is very playful but not really accessible. It has a bit of a meditation feeling over it, while it also switches to more dramatic parts. Feels like you are dragged into the story that Bruce had in mind when creating these sounds.
“Feral Songs For The Epic Decline” is an album that may not interest every one. Those who knew him from his Metal projects may step back from it when this sort of music does not belong to your collection already. Those who can set themselves to listen it, can be transferred into an intense world, where surprising elements suddenly spice up the atmosphere. An acoustic guitar, some vocals after having some minutes of instrumentals. Just little things that matter. An interesting release. People who liked Ìon’s (solo project of Duncan Patterson) release “Immaculada” might find it worth to check this one out too.
