The Swedish band Fejd is presenting their second full length album “Eifur”. The band Fejd was founded back in 2001 by the fusion of the Swedish duo Rimmerfors and a few of the members from metal band Pathos.
They all have a love for nature, Swedish legend, medieval instruments and traditional and beautiful melodies. Fjed tries to add the sadness of the Nordic melancholy to the sound of the music, also by using their original Swedish language. They use traditional instruments to create that old and natural feeling for instance they use bagpipes, whistles, hurdy/gurdies and a violin. As a backbone there is a extant pounding drumming that makes sure, together with the melodies, that you can dance on this music. However it is not really a metal album. It is clearly a folk album with metal and rock influences, but when talking of metal a comparison should be made with Finntroll, who are more focus on the metal. For Fejd the focus lies on folk melodies and almost a telling-speaking way of singing. Some of the tracks are very catchy like “Drägen Och Kråkan”, “Ledung” and “Farsot”. Due to the way of melodic singing sometimes the tracks seem to look like each other, but on the other hand it does make all the tracks connect to each other. Like one big story Fejd is telling us. This is a very nice album for those fans of folk music.
