Architects – The Here And Now

Releasedate: 24-01-2011; Label: Century Media
By: Elvira Visser

The young boys from the UK band Architects presents us with their new album “The Here And Now”. This album would represents the last four years of the band. The band is fairly young, in 2009 they signed with Century Media and their debut on that record label was “Hollow Crown”. Showing their skills in the metal core, the skills to create tracks with catchy choruses and sharp screams.

Presenting an album that contains metal core but not the angry kind. The album has a positive feel to it. When the band was still on tour they started writing the tracks for this album, but the band was kind of fed up with everything. Then they realised that they were lucky to do what they love, making music and living their dreams. Tom Searle said something like: “we need to live in the here and now, and enjoy every day we have”. They went to record the album in a time period of six weeks with Steve Evetts (Hatebreed, The Dillinger Escape Plan) at The Omen Room in L.A.
What we can say about the album is that there is a balance between sharp screams and moments where you have almost poppy catchy choruses that even sound like those emo bands such as 30 Seconds to Mars. Luckily Architects know how to use this to make it catchy but also put a strong effort on the metal core scream moments and musical brutality. It is how they mix this to keep it interesting. The album “The Here And Now” has two guest appearances. One by Andrew Neufeld on “Stay YoungForever” and Greg Puciato on the powerful “Year In Year Out”. Do not be scared by my mentioning of the poppy like clean vocals, for those who like brutality and pounding drums: it is on this album. Th band can be proud of this album, maybe a tad more mainstream. Which in my eyes will attract a dozen more female fans to the band.
