Genghis Tron is an American four-piece experimental metal band formed in United States. They were merely active from 2004 to 2010 and then went in hiatus for 10 years. This year the band releases new material, an album called “Dream Weapon”.
If you like the combination of electronic music and heavier styles the return of Genghis Tron will certainly make you happy. The band has returned with an album that listens easily, a calm sound where they have the focus on the dreamy side of atmosphere. Not what all of the fans may have expected, but the band has changed a couple of bandmembers also, so to see some change was logic.
However, the album has still a lot of elements that define them. The electronic part is still quite leading even though there is more space for vocals as well. A new vocalist who remind me a bit to Novembre. “Pyrocene” is one of the tracks that stand out most, it seems to have abit mor epower to it and sets itself apart from other songs in the tracklist.
If you had expected the Genghis Tron from 10 years ago, this release might disappoint you. You could argue that they could have started this as a new project just as well. But perhaps opening your mind a bit is making space for this release as it certainly has its moments. In conclusion you are off best to listen to this release as if you have not heard the earlier material. Because then you will appreciate it so much more.
