Caskets Open – Concrete Realms of Pain

Label: Seeing Red Records (Vinyl) | Wise Blood Records (Cassette)
Releasedate: 12-03-2021

Caskets Open is a three-piece doom/punk band, hailing from Finland. They were formed in 2007 and have released four full-length albums so far, with the latest one “Concrete Realms of Pain” out now!

“Concrete Realms of Pain” offers that nice diversity, ranging from doom to thrash/punk…. The two opposites! Essence of the record is doom no doubt though; you will feel this atmosphere in the riffs mainly but also in the vocals. This is not a full-on slow-paced on the other hand but a rather dynamic one. Slow songs like “Homecoming” or “White Animal” will be the favorites that the doom fans get to love whereas some nice twists such as “Tadens Tolthe” and “Soul Stained Glass” surely might feel different within the record but add a nice dimension to it. I can also recommend “Pale Hunter” as it depicts the soul of “Concrete Realms of Pain” and Caskets Open quite well; especially in this song we have the doom elements mixed with that old-school death metal sound… which is just awesome!

One highlight I liked is how the band dives within different genres without overdoing it. There is a bit of tribute going on to the classic legends in the scene. Some names that came to my mind were Danzig, Paradise Lost, Black Sabbath, and Type O Negative for instance. But even if you notice that ‘familiar sound’, you will still feel that the band has this vision for a long time and stay true to their sound.

“Concrete Realms of Pain” is surely a must-have for the fans of doom but also for the ones who like variety in their music. Get it, you won’t be disappointed for sure!
