Waves of Decay – Burn Your Angel Wings

Releasedate: 15-01-2021
Label: Self release

Belgian formation Waves of Decay formed around 2016/2017 and soon after that released their very first EP. A mix of Heavy Metal and Industrial, their own sound as they stated back then. Now the band is releasing “Burn Your Angel Wings”, a second EP where they show how they evolved.

The band still likes to mix up the different genres like they did on their first release. Some more Death maybe, a bit Thrash and perhaps the industrial part is fading a bit more. The vocals in this release are something you may need to get used to, but lays an interesting touch to the bands sound. Clean vocals where you probably would have expected a bit more raw vocals. Contributes to the band’s identity for sure.

Halfway the band band has some saxophone into their song “AngeRED”. It is a remarkable touch to the track that you may not have expected. It suits well enough and brings a nice surprise. The release continues with the track “Catch-22” which is a bit chaotic in a way. An identity crise on its own, but somehow one that ended up listenable.

In general the music switches back and forth from one style to another, so a listener needs to invest some time to listen to it with proper attention. But if you compare it to the previous release it seems that Waves of Decay have brought the total of all tracks together on a stronger level. They are doing their thing and when you step away fromt he thought that they are either this or that, you start to hear the bands qualities better. Listen deeper, take your time and enjoy it more.
