Winterhorde comes from Israël. The Melodic Black metal band have been formed in 2001. They came with their debut album in 2006 and this year their second album “Underwatermoon” got released.
The twelve track release contains quite various songs. Some are rather short, others are longer and also musically the band tries to vary quite a bit. Here and there some progressive elements, other sides there are also plenty Black Metal elements but the fact that the guys kept it melodic makes it open for many listeners. Composition wise the songs stick together very well. Riffs stitch every part together but only as a support of the drums. Drummer Hesperus has his job well done here. Though it is not the most common way of blending the genres. The calmer parts will not fall in good taste with every Black Metal fan, the band seems to be taking a risk with it and do as they please it themselves, not compromising with the stereotype. Winterhorde brings some experimental sound which seems to work quite well. Quite a story comes thorugh the album, there is plenty to listen too. Don’t think you are done after a first listening session, that is only the beginning. Quite a nice album!
