Label: ATO Records Releasedate: 15-05-2020
Nick Hakim is an artist that makes some relaxed, psychedelic pop music. He released a debut album in 2017 and is now returning with a follow up. It is called “Will This Make Me Good” and it is available now.
Putting this record on will give you an instant zen moment. Take it easy and clear your head. It has a jazzy touch but the blend is not that simple to label because it seems that Nick is mainly choosing what suits him best and not have any need to fit into a label. The structures of these tracks are sometimes a bit hard to grasp. One moment it follows a defined and logical path but on other moments it is just swarming around you. That results in a way that the listener has to give himself over and let it all happen. Be open-minded to it.
Looking at the highlights of the release you quickly come to a track like “Qadir”. Interesting way of incorporating the drums in there is making the song go to another level. Next one to mention would be the catchy track “All These Instruments”.
Overall the album turns out to be typically Nick Hakim. He puts his own unique stamp onto it, which makes this one refreshing and entertaining. You need to invest a bit into it, and trust. But when you feel the whole coming together you will enjoy this release.
