Mercury Circle – The Dawn of Vitriol

Label: Noble Demon
Releasedate: 14-08-2020

Mercury Circle is a new band from Finland, but its members must be known to the regular Tempelores readers. Jaani Peuhu from Iconcrash is fronting it. But beyond Iconcrash we have seen him in Swallow The Sun and Hallatar for example. And these are closer to what Mercury Circle is about. A first release is called “The Dawn of Vitriol” and it is available now.

Melancholic moments enter your room as you start playing this release. “Oil of Vitriol” is starting it well. An introduction that leads you right into the essence, not always a given, but a well suited element that brings you into the right atmosphere from the start. The slowpaced, doomy feel of it embraces the melancholy and leads you right into a dreamy state of mind.
“Black Flags” for example, is one of the tracks that can bring you deep into it. You may want to listen to this song on your headphones, locking out the outside world so you can focus on the little details and get lost into the sound. “The Last Fall” continues that feel and while the tension is rising, building on to a climax where the intensity comes to a highlight. Closer “New Dawn” has that same thing over it, but with a slightly different twist.

Altogether this first EP is one that sets them on the map. Some line up changes were announced while the band is transitioning into a solid shape, as well as some more material that they are working on. For now you must make sure to have this EP in your collection. The dreary season is creeping towards us and you want this caress your ears while enjoying a warm beverage near the fireplace.
