Necrite – Sic Transit Gloria Mundi

Releasedate: 02-11-2010; Label: Flenser Recordings
By: Sabine van Gameren

Necrite is a Black Metal formation from USA that formed in 2004. After the release of several demo’s it is now time for their debut full length “Sic Transit Gloria Mundi”.

Influenced by Drone elements Necrite comes with a project that seem to have traditional Black Metal tempo’s but yet a dose of bass in their sound making it much darker than thought at first. What is missing is that cold sharp edge, that seems to be vanished of the stereotype and transferred to ambience. Feel the misty air around you, the cold, the ice and yet the warmth of the passion where this all is coming from. Five tracks from this trio. Variating from 7.33 minutes to 27.07. Within these minutes you go from Black Metal to Drone with hardly unnoticeable transitions. It is sometimes intimidating, yet it’s calming, the strange feeling of the unknown wins here.
As it is perhaps not the most accessible music, it is a smart from the band to pick the tracklist as they did, the other way around would have resulted in many potential fans giving up too soon and missing out on the whole concept of Necrite. Yet, this album is one to grow into. The band is good on its way, a little remark needs to be made as the band could perhaps make their compositions in such a way they end with a big highlight, an explosion of emotions instead of seeing yourself fading out of their album before it actually is over.
