Evocation comes from Sweden, a country that has quite a reputation when it comes to Death Metal. The band plays old school death metal since 1991. “Apocalyptic” is their third full length release.
Where their previous release “Dead Calm Chaos” could not convince me as the band showed to less of an own identity on it, this new release is a step forward from that. The band stands out way more with this album. Showing what they are up for. Suddenly there is the metal-catchiness, in perfect old school Death Metal with good compositions. Those who enjoy listening to guitars will find themselves perfectly pleased with this records, the guitars gotten plenty of space to show themselves of. The band plays around with the tempo, never gets too fast, rather taking a step back than speeding it up too much. Nevertheless the vehemence is there, drums give a steady backing here. Production wise there is nothing to complain about either. All seems in good balance and the total outcome sounds as it should be. Nothing makes more sense than concluding that the Swedish Evocation succeeded in making a wonderful album, that will be played plenty more times. We hope to meet the band at the road!
