Hexperos is a project of the Italian Alessandra Santovito and Francesco Forgione. Alessandra might be a familiar voice, she use to sing in the band Gothica. With this project they are up for their second release called “The Veil of Queen Mad”.
At first Hexperos seems quite experimental, here and there some well placed arrangements, but the major problem with the album is that it is not enough variation to keep a listener interested throughout the whole record. This is mainly, because the vocals are very dominating and quite dreamy. As you float away on some cloud you easily forget that you were listening to the album, which is a bit of a disappointment. Alessandra’s voice is after all one that stands far above the millions why try to be like this. Listeners who have a strong spiritual need in their lives will be quite pleased with it though as there seems to be a lot of inspiration coming from the spiritual things in life. Also, the album has elements of the world all over it. Different use of instruments support that and while lyrics are all inspired by Shakespeare these songs bring you quite a cultural experience. Musically there is not so much wrong with the album, but it is not an album that will attract masses.
