The British rock band Pure Reason Revolution is around since 2003. They are releasing their third studio album “Hammar And An Anvil”.
Combine Progrock with Electro and for the darkest parts a touch of industrial can be found in there too. It’s not the most common combination, but the result is a very danceable piece of music. What makes the album an instant success is the fact that they perfectly know how to blend these different genres. The tempo stays up quite well, which seems important cause the slower songs are less attractive than the more up-tempo ones. Here and there a recognizable sample here and there makes the party mood come up soon enough and when the album gets further you notice the last songs are a bit darker from tone. Take “Blitzkrieg” that stays with the dancing part most of the times to include vocals at the second part of the song, but remains with this dark feeling. Could almost fit in an Industrial set. The album closes with the calm “Armistice” which seems a bit of black sheep on the album as the electronics float out to some piano drama.
Overall the album is a good one. You can see it coming for a concert of them and fit into any silly after party you might imagine. Pure Reason Revolution sends out positive vibes with this release and it will surely bring some new fans for them. Worth to try out if you are up for something that steps away from the familiarity.
