Opensight is a band from Columbia. They ar emaking Progressive Heavy metal since 2002 and after releasing a full length album in 2008, there is now an EP called: “The Voice of Nothing” out by these guys.
Progressive elements are quite in here, when this release starts playing you get a good feeling of where this music will go to as the band doesn’t wait long with showing its face. At first you might think that the strength of this band is mostly in the instrumentals, but when listening more carefully you realize that the reason the vocals are not coming out as strong as hoped for is mainly the production. It could have been a bit more dominating to gain some extra strength. Here and there the jazz influences bring an interesting atmosphere with them, but the core idea of this music is not the most original one. The EP only comes with five tracks and in a search for a song that sets THE face of Opensight, it seems to be missing, this is quite a pity as the instrumentals are giving perspective to bring something strong.
“The Voice of Nothing” is perhaps one to get on the grow. What you hear is a band that searches its own identity, perhaps has strong ideas of it already but somehow did not manage to recall that on this particular EP. It’s just a matter of time, till they find the way.
