The Belgian Voidwork has been quite busy. Instead of one album, they present two. At the same disk to be precise. “Horror/Forsaken” is out now.
The first part, “Horror” stays true to what is in the name. Creepy sounds, the gazingly unknown is on its path and you feel like you are wandering around in abandoned area’s where the horror movies find their base. VoidWork plays with your imagination, leaves a lot of impressions on your mind and does never choose an easy way for your entertainment. Some vocals are in the sound but not as any important factor that dominates. Rather to adjust some mystic element. The ambient side of this band meets some of the ambient Black Metal efforts, but remain far enough from that border where the cold and ice come into the sound. It stays playful.
The second part, “Forsaken” is a slightly more accessible. The horror is out, but that doesn’t make the atmosphere less creepy and you can’t help yourself being very cautious on the slightest details in the music. The songs seem a bit lighter than on “Horror” and perhaps you can see it as an enlightment after the first part.
Overall this release is quite interesting. It has different sides and needs some time to get used to. “Horror/Forsaken” has to grow on you so give it some more times listening and you will embrace it after a while.
