Supports: Scenario II, Insomnium; Venue: 013, Tilburg (Netherlands)
By: Elvira Visser
When arriving at the venue the audience notices that the bands do not play in the main hall but in the rather small hall. One thing is that the concert will be cozy and there is plenty of room to set a great atmosphere and the other side the main hall has a bigger stage.
A band with many band members like Scenario II had a bit of a hard time on that little stage. There was not much space to move around, which forced the members to keep at their spot. Scenario II is a band that has been around for many years and Tempelores has know the band for some years. Remarkable is that the line up has completely changes. There is only one person present from those days. The music of the band has evolved since then. The third singer is introduced and also a female vocalist. Wich is not trying to be the next gothic singer but is really used as a contribution to the tracks. At some tracks you only hear her to add that little extra. The main growls are still the most important, although compared to the sound of the band some years ago this is way better in quality but less raw and almost sweet at some points. Something the band has to work on is their stage present in between the sons. There are busy with themselves and leave the audience in silence. Nice performance as start of the evening, although they had a hard time to involve and entertain the audience. |
Where Scenario II had difficulties to really reach the audience Insomnium did so already when they set foot on stage. From that moment on, the crowd was more outgoing, clapping and singing along. Like the support act Insomnium is quite know at Tempelores and it is great to see that they have grown over the years and how they found their way into some sort of cult status. The majority of the metal fans do not know this band but those who do support them strongly. The mood is also set by the light show of this band. Dark and together with the music doomy and melancholic. Another reason in why they got this success the last years is that they play their compositions very neat and precise. Overall they really create an atmosphere and if the listener is ready to really adopt the music and are open to the flow of the music, you have to love this band. The band played a lot of tracks from their album “Across the Dark” which was greatly valued by the audience. Tonight the band would play without their keyboard guy Aleksi Munter (Swallow the Sun), he is not a real member of the band but whenever he has the time he joins the band on stage. For the visual and how effect on this small stage not many people missed him I thing as we could enjoy the keys on tape. The only negative of this performance was that they were too soon at the end of their set list. While they were playing they were giving their best. A great show, and they band members seem to enjoy themselves. Synchronise head banging is also something they are very good at. Not that I do not allow the band to become very successfully, the way they play now in small venues is amazing. They know how to really set a tone, how to create at atmosphere and a show, I hope they will be as successful in the big venues. |
Dark Tranquillity is the headliner of this evening. You could notice that this was the band most people came for as it was really crowded, almost no space to move in the little hall. The band that got its fame in co-creating the Gothenburg sound played the venue with a background of some screens with visuals. Dark Tranquillity also played a lot of work from their latest album. The sound could have been better but Insomnium did a great job in getting the crowd cheering and there was no stopping them due to the sound. The Swedish band plays Scandinavian death metal but with a focus on groovyness and catchy melodies. The audience seem to dig every moment of the performance as they kept cheering. The power from the men on stage resulted into a positive atmosphere. You could see no disappointing on the faces as they were standing on a very little stage, but they seem not to matter and wanted to entertain the audience in which they succeed. |
