Comeback Kid is a hardcore punk band from Winnipeg, Canada. Their name comes from a headline in a newspaper about hockey player, Mario Lemieux coming back to the NHL. The band was formed in 2002 by Andrew Neufeld and Jeremy Hiebert who were both members of the band Figure Four, which is currently on hiatus. They were joined by their friends Scott Wade and Kyle Profetta, but CBK was originally intended only to be a side project. Their initial popularity was mainly due to word of mouth within the hardcore scene.
“Symptoms + Cures” is their fourth studio album. The first thing that’s coming at you is the shouted vocals. But also the fast and thriving music as well as the riffs make your muscles twitch. The choruses are made for the masses to shout along. The powerful music promises to be an awesome live show. The lyrics are actually quite interesting but hard to understand because of the distorted sounding vocals. The music of Comeback Kid is really great even though I still believe that a mixture between shouted and clean vocals would sound better. Strong music pushing through all eleven songs. “Symptoms + Cures” is a wonderful album for everybody who likes hardcore punk.
