Xerion is a Spanish formation, started as a solo project in 2001. After releasing numerous split releases, the band is now up for their second full length album “Cantares Das Loitas Esquecidas”.
Xerion is a band that may come from Spain, but does not sing in Spanish or English. The come from Galicia and so they make use of the local language. A lot of their themes are found in the local area too. This input makes a plus for the Black Metal they make. It is slightly different from the masses and that is definitely a pro. Also good is that they did not gave the music too much folk influences. Some catchy riffs are included and after listening a few times you totally get into it. The band brings in some tempo changes that are not the most predictable and sometimes even surprising, but overall these guys have done quite a good job. Fans of Folk / Black Metal might want to pick this up, it is a nice one. You might have to get used to the language, but that will come sooner than you expect. It’s not a totally new invention, but refreshing enough to deserve your attention.
