Angelus Apatrida – Clockwork

Releasedate: 21-06-2010; Label: Century Media
By: Elvira Visser

One country that is not that obvious to bring forth great metal bands is Spain. This band however comes from Spain and formed their band back in 2000 in Albecate. Which is known to be a small town and daily life is more or less about wine and the tradition of farming wine. In a place like that where you can’t do much when your young you better spend hours practising your instruments and find some friends who like the same music and like to start a band. Angelus Apatrida was born like that. According to singer Guillermo Izquierdo:“We had to fight really hard and do everything by ourselves”. Their new album “Clockwork” is not their first album the Spanish band releases. They have already released two self-released albums in their homeland. “Evil Unleashed” (2006) and “Give ‘Em War” (2007). With their new album released by Century Media they are ready to set foot outside Spain. The band has to offer us some good quality metal but nothing new. The singer’s voice you either like or dislike but overall the album is steady and well produced. The band is influenced by the Bay Area Trash metal and New British Heavy metal. When hearing their sound it is no wonder that they are influenced by bands such as Iron Maiden, Megadeath, Pantera and Overkill. As a bonus they covered Iron Maiden’s “Be Quick Or Be Dead”, and gave it their own touch.
