Grand Magus is a Heavy Metal band coming from Sweden. Their album “Hammer of The North” is out now.
The Swedish guys have got it down quite well. Heavy Metal like back in the days, leaving this typical touch of the north on it. The band is consistent, having these heavy riffs all over the album and instead of coming up with a cheesy solo like a stereotypical band would do the band sticks to the deeper sound. In some grounds there is a little influence of doom to hear. Not too much but it is surely there. Songs on “Hammer of The North” are all powerful and yet a bit of catchiness is there. It is to say that a little variation would have made this album a bit more challenging. After 7 songs there are still some more to come but somehow it feels like the portion was finished. Done. Never put too much on your plate, my mom would say and maybe this is a bit too much.
Nevertheless, the album is pleasant to listen to. A bit of a nostalgic feeling, but yet it embraces the ages we are living in currently. Just a bit too much of the same songs are on it.
