Withershin – The Hungering Void

Releasedate: 01-06-2010;
By: Sabine van Gameren

This Swedish Black Metal formation got together in 2006. After releasing their debut full length in 2008, the band now released an EP called “The Hungering Void”

When hearing this band I slightly got remembered to Satyricon. There are clean sounds on this EP to start with. Quite open. Don’t think the band is too light as they bring a good blast beat with them as well. The band brought some good compositions which has enough variation. A bit of a pity is that sometimes the tempo completely falls out of it by bringing way too peaceful moments compared to the rest. The speed was just in it and seeing that leave is quite turning down as this is a three track only EP and not a full album. In general the music comes quite balanced, a good production have been done and it fits with the band.
Furthermore this album is one that Black Metal fans can surely give a try, it is a decent album with enough variety leaving a good memory behind. As the band claims to be “A ferocious and ruthless beast” on stage I wonder how this music will do when being played live.
