October Falls is a Finnish band, making Ambient Dark metal with Doom/Folk influences. The project started in 2001, “A Collapse of Faith” is the third full length release.
The album gets presented as a three track album, the three different parts are seen as one long song though. The first part of the album, knows a lot of vocals, intensity and building tension where the second part is the most beautiful part of the album for getting you sucked into the music. More than 17 minutes you get to enjoy it and it finishes with an over 5 minutes track.
The strength of this composition is that really takes the time to build up towards climaxes. It has a driving sound mainly made by melodic guitars getting that extra push in the back from the drums. In the second part of the album, the guitars take more of a lead over the drums and let you grow into their sound. When the wildest parts has reached their highlight, it get picked up by acoustic guitar and you get transferred into that routine again of building. It’s like walking three steps up and then two down and continue doing this till the end of the record. No wonder the last track is a bit more calmer, you reached the top and celebrate the victory of getting there, tasting the greatness of the trip still on your lips.
It’s addicting, “A Collapse of Faith”. An album that will be played more than you would expect at first.
