03-06-2010 30 Seconds To Mars

Venue: Batschkapp, Frankfurt (Germany)
By: Nina Mende

Tonight we were back at Batschkapp. This time to see 30 Seconds To Mars.
30 Seconds to Mars is an American rock band from Los Angeles, formed in 1998. Since 2007, the band has been composed of actor Jared Leto (lead vocals, rhythm guitar, songwriter), Shannon Leto (drums, percussion) and Tomo Miličević (lead guitar, keyboards). Following the departure of Matt Wachter (now of Angels & Airwaves) in 2007, Tim Kelleher became the bassist for the group, performing live only with both Jared and Miličević recording bass for studio recordings, while Braxton Olita (keyboards) was added to the touring lineup in 2009. Previously, the group also featured guitarists Solon Bixler (now of Great Northern) and Kevin Drake.

They played two show cases in Frankfurt, both were sold out. There were many fans outside, waiting to get in. Several had mentioned that they were on many shows of 30 Seconds To Mars on this tour. Every fan had the band logo, the triangle, somewhere. Even drawn right in the face of some or all over the ground of where they had been waiting at all day. It seemed like 30 Seconds To Mars Fans are very passionate and band centered. They know all about their band and proudly wear their merchandise, spread the word and sign. 30 Seconds To Mars also seemed to have a huge fan community and very dedicated fan clubs that travel after the band worldwide. Doors opened shortly before 9pm and at 9pm the band came on. There was no opening act, the show began with 30 Seconds To Mars right away. The light was dim and there was a lot of fog, as well as a lot of red light. As the band entered the stage the cheering was immense. The venue was terribly crowded and the air was heating up immediately as well. As Jared Leto entered the stage the cheering was getting even louder. I hadn’t believed that would be possible. Jared had pink top-hair that he sometimes formed to a little Mohawk but wore down for tonight and the sides were blond. He also wore shades with a pink frame. The band began playing and the audience began dancing and going insane. Jared did not need to sing many words, the audience sang most of it, throughout some songs he even played guitar, a white one. He enjoyed it and let their fans sing quite a lot. Everybody knew the lyrics to each song. Simply according to the cheering you could not tell which songs the audience loved more, they were always making a whole lot of noise after each and every song and even in between. 30 Seconds To Mars played songs off all their three albums including all their hits. The band was thankful for the awesome fan support and thanked them a lot. The show lasted for two hours including an encore. An amazing show for all fans, and I am sure most of them would be there both days if not even at more dates throughout the tour.
