The Rolling Stones are an English rock band, formed in April 1962 in London when guitarist and harmonica player Brian Jones and pianist Ian Stewart joined vocalist Mick Jagger and guitarist Keith Richards. Bassist Bill Wyman and drummer Charlie Watts completed the early lineup. After signing to Decca Records in 1963, the band changed their name from “The Rollin’ Stones” to “The Rolling Stones”.Band members and others often refer to the band as “The Stones”. In 1963 Jagger and Richards formed a songwriting partnership and eventually took over leadership of the band as Jones became increasingly troubled and erratic. After recording mainly covers of American blues and R&B songs, every studio record since the 1966 album Aftermath has featured mainly Jagger/Richards songs. Mick Taylor replaced Jones shortly before Jones’ death in 1969. Taylor quit in 1974, and was replaced in 1975 by Faces guitarist Ronnie Wood, who has remained with the band since. Stewart was removed from the official lineup in 1963 to continue as the band’s road manager and occasional keyboardist until his death in 1985. Wyman left in 1992 and was replaced by Darryl Jones, who is not an official band member but has been the primary bassist since 1994. …
After many many years of band history and many many albums, Rolling Stones decided to re-release “Exile On Main Street” which has been released in 1972. But the new version, 38 years later, also includes a second CD with 10 previously unreleased tracks. Somehow it is awesome to have the 70s sound back in your living room. Just the sizzling noise of the vinyl is missing. But all the other 70s sounds are still there. You can hear piano playing, wah wah distorted guitars, female gospel singers in the background and Mick Jagger’s “younger” voice, harmonica, some jazz influences and the easy floating sound from the 70s. Even the previously unreleased songs on the second CD have that sound. “Follow The River” is a very dramatic sounding piano ballad. A brilliant album with classics on it. Classics from 38 years ago. The album layout as well as the booklet are very nostalgic. With old studio in the booklet and all kinds of pictures put together in a collage on the cover. All held in sepia so it looks “old”. “Exile On Main Street – Remastered” is an awesome must have for all fans.
