The Difference is a band from Belgium. The band exists since 1996 and is up for Progressive metal. “When Light Uncovers Grey” is their latest release.
The guys from Belgium have a steady portion of melodic parts in their music, it must be said that if you are more for some aggressive material, this band won’t be there for you. This being said the expectations are set straight to what it is. The band brings in powerful songs, built on the base of an interesting riffage, calm and controlled as well as the faster work. What stands out are the vocals for being very clear, a good articulation helps this music to be more open. Occasionally there are some raw edges on the vocal side, these come from Jonathan Matthijs known from the band Powerstroke. These work out great next to the vocals of the band’s own vocalist Gerd Hanssens. A song like “Caught In The Middle” suddenly becomes one that brings the album up to another level. And actually, from there on it only gets better. The album closes well with “Buried In The Past”.
The band managed make an album that stays interesting after several times of listening. Their music is not another stereotypical album in the genre, it knows diversity and plenty surprises elements to keep you interested. One to remember!
