The Brazilian band Soulfly is quite known in metal land. The band by Max Cavalera comes with a new album “Omen”. This is their seventh studio album.
“Omen” has the confidential sound that you are used to of Soulfly, maybe in a darker, heavier color. The Thrash got a bit up in speed and the dirt from Max Cavalera’s mouth seems exactly what was to expect. A little variation on what the band has done before comes in the riffage where some influences out of punk music can be found. This all comes with interesting melodies which are not in domination, but bring that filthy smooth (now that gives something to think of!) atmosphere in the music that fits to the image that even non-listeners have of the band.
Overall the band choose to make the album a bit raw when it comes to their sound, which does not match that much with the production, which results in a bit of an empty feeling in some parts of the album.
“Omen” is an album that fans can easily buy without any hesitation. Soulfly is Soulfly and their concept is not drastically changed since their previous work. If it tops any of their older albums is a question that is just to answer when time strikes. For now the album sets right next to the others, but who knows where it ends up after numerous listening.
