Thanateros is a German formation making Goth-Rock with Folk elements. Their album “Tranceforming” is out now.
At the first listen I came to a heavier version of Tanzwut as reference. But then the band is perhaps creating an even wilder mix of sounds. A heavy bass leads the heaviness to the front. A fast paced sound is there, the Folk elements making the whole rather different.
Altogether it is quite a lot. These songs have all and all is loud. Nothing that this band does is subtle. It’s there and it is in your face. Once you get through the first songs on the album it calms down a bit and then you get more chance to shift your focus to individual elements in the sound. Strings to embrace the atmosphere the band tries to set. Sometimes dark, sometimes warm, whatever suits at the moment. Tracks like “I Hold You” where all is calmer you immediately notice that the balance is more pleasant. And suddenly there are some nice guitars to come forward. Totally faded in other tracks and here a great element that peaks through the sound.
In the end Thanateros created a rather chaotic album. A lot to hear and quite direct. With a bit smarter dosing of each element you could probably create a more dynamic picture but “Tranceforming” surely has its moments. It’s an album that keeps you listening for a while.
