Borka Balogh is an indie singer/songwriter based in Amsterdam. With a dark touch to her sound she presents her self titled debut album this year.
Yes, dark it is, somewhat breakable at points, so that darkness is not going towards the eerie but more referring towards that emotional spectrum of darkness. Either way it can bring very fine moments of music. The release starts with the song “Gone” which somewhat reminds to northern atmospheres. Think Myrkur (but less metal)for example. Musically perhaps a bit simpler but nevertheless a serene sound that eases you into the album. On “Nostalgia” that quite drags along. A lot of repeats. Maybe a bit too much. Some may like a bit more variance in the tracklist. The songs are not too far apart from eachother which could have one lose interest. A pity because the most you get out of the album is when you put some time into it and listen it more often, so the details are coming out a little more.
Yet there is plenty to find in the album. Borka Balogh never chooses to overdo it, but stays close to her own feel. Safe, but good enough as the album turns out to be pleasant to listen to.
