A Tortured Soul is an American metal band formed in 2002. “Lucifer’s Fate” is their third album.
For this release, A Tortured Soul chose to bring out an album which could sound as complete as possible. In the sense that you don’t really feel like there’s something missing while listening to it. Throughout the album a lot of nuances can be found, carried with the same dark atmosphere that echoes doom and heavy metal. The tracks wind along different themes, that can stand in “common” guitar solos, that show the most heavy metal side of the music, bells sound or stark rhythms changes. However, the characteristic that really makes the listening particular is Rick Black’s voice, that might sound kind of clunky and awkward at first, but gains attention when pushed to vocalise. Many of the songs on the album are filled with this technique, “Ashes To Ashes” for example is one of those, that probably don’t stand out for their beauty but their singularity instead. This note could be widen to the whole album: you might not feel like loving it, but there’s a high possibility you will at least find it interesting and appreciate the effort of the band in making it extremely dynamic.
