Mouth of the Architect is an American atmospheric sludge metal band from Dayton, Ohio, creating music influenced by and similar to Neurosis, Isis, Pelican, Cult of Luna and various post-metal bands. “The Violence Beneath” is their latest album after releasing three full lengths in the past.
The band kicks in with a bombastic piece of music, surely influenced by the names mentioned earlier but as a fact combined into a solid piece of their own. Within their moments of building towards a climax they often bring little pieces of violence that trigger your interest. To mention are also the melodic parts that for a perfect foundation for the vocals. Where the vocals come in there is an aggressive tension, that comes with passion. The vocal style of Jason Watkins is adding power to the music that it does need, without that it might have been a bit too open.
What this album really makes a success is its variety. There is a little bit of everything in it and it is more accessible for untrained listeners to this genre. Maybe the band is even capable of building a bridge for fans of other genres. Therefore this EP is surely recommendable for experimenting music fans.
