Releasedate: 2019
Sister May is a Belgian formation making Rock. The band is formed in 2016 and released their EP “Ascent” recently. It is available now.
After the release of the EPP “My Absolute Defiler” the guys are now returning with another EP. The band collected four songs with a raw edge rock attitude. Not always the most obvious structure, one needs to wait and see where it leads. Could be interesting but here it seems a bit more like a lack of direction. Did they know at the start where they were heading to when creating it? Just a bit chaotic.
Luckily the songs do come with a bit of variation, if this was a full album you would want a bit more even but for an EP they get away with it. A song like “Diamond Dreams” is quite stong and gives the impression it could be brought with immense passion in live situation.
Compare it to “(R)evolution” which is much calmer and has been made mysterious by digging into some sort of vocal cliche trickbook. Not always suiting the song at its best.
Sister May mainly needs some more time. Time to discover their strengths and build upon that and not looking at what others do to make it more intense. Stay closer to themselves we would say. If they can do that, a full length will be interesting to listen to.
