In Motion – Thriving Force

Releasedate: 22-02-2019

In Motion is Belgian formation making a combi of Progressive and Thrash. The album “Thriving Force” came out this year.

It is a bit of an odd one, this album. Progressive versus Thrash is not the most common combi, but certainly not completely unknown. The thing with this release is that there are a whole lot of featurings in the album. Going from Björn Strid to Matthieu Romarin and many others. It gives a very varied sound and after a few songs you feel a bit lost with the red thread in it. How does it come together? Well mainly by the guitars. In these you will find the essence of In Motion. But it sometimes becomes a bit of a struggle between the lengthy prog pieces and the more raw Thrash parts, a battle that may split their crowd in two.

The band shows us some good moments in which the two come together, but at the end of the tracklist one may still feel a bit confused. Another listen and another one further it is the point there where you will decide and for us that means that this is maybe not a winner. It is too two-sided. Would the whole become a closer unity it would have scored higher but for now it are just the individual elements that make us enjoy some of it.
