Label: Far Away Association
Releasedate: 09-02-2019
French formation Far Away formed in 2016 after some traveling. Bringing influences from the trips into the music the band created the release “Viaje”. An alternative metal release that is said to be influenced by acts like Gojira, Alcest and Pink Floyd.
The start of the album has an interesting touch. Thrash but not leaving the melodic parts stray too far. It is indeed a bit like Gojira did on their earlier albums. The soundscapes we are getting are diverse, at one point it is full energy and intensity while they just as easily switch to something quite calm and mellow. A two faced thing so to say.
The screams are not always coming out strongest, something to work on for their placement in the music makes it worth it. But more success comes from the atmospheres the band creates. How abrupt they can turn it all alround and not having that disturb you.
Most standing out on this release is the track “Dust and Sun” as we can imagine this is the song that captures you when seeing it live at a festival, the track is well thought and the intensity of it is at its most beautiful.
“Viaje” is a pleasant release, the guys have some points they can improve on, sure, but for what it is now we are already quite satisfied. A fine release!
