The Norwegian band Mighty Magnolias was founded in 2015. With the rock and roll feel behind it they made a blend of various genres, some country, some americana and a little bit from whatever suits it. The ban released “Unknown Skyline” last year and recently brought it ou on a larger scale.
A
classic sound, the band has the feel of the past and hangs onto it
strongly. Anno 2019 is here but it doesn’t surface too often. Svart
records, Heavy Psych Sounds and some others are strongly bringing the
psychedelic sound back to light but Mighty Magnolias are taking their
own pick onto the past. What speaks for the band is that the songs
they have written listen easily and does not get boring if you go to
the tracklist. The variation is in it and they seek to throw in some
pretty damn riffs to listen to, a guitar minded person will easily
enjoy it.
Listen for example to the track “From A Higher
Ground”. It sounds like something you have heard many times before,
yet you can’t always put your finger on it. The band has their own
stamp onto it. Maybe just because it is a duet brought in a specific
way, it reminded me to the Common Linnets.
Also one track that drew our attention is the opening track “Ain’t On The Run No More”. It has the catchiness to hit the charts.
Overall the Might Magnolias are delivering a good release that knows its finest moments in the riffs that really drive the songs, the vocals are not the spotlight and yet it is not like you are listening to a guitarist who brought in some vocals to fill it up. It is a complete album with the subtle balance brought in this way on purpose.
