The Gloaming – The Gloaming 3

Label: Real World Records
Releasedate: 22-02-2019

Irish music group The Gloaming is formed in 2011. The band released two studio albums and a live release and are anno 2019 releasing album number three. It is called “The Gloaming 3” and is out now.

The Gloaming does not take long to tell you what they are about. A dark and sinister world is opening up to you when you start playing this record. Gloomy and melancholy here and there but mainly piercing through your soul. Vocalist Iarla does not need much to give that, the vocals sound beautiful either when it is hold back or given full power. A track like “The Old Road to Garry “ seems so energetic, while in other ways the calmthness is key to their success.

Instrumentally the band keeps it quite modest. It is supporting the mood that Iarla presents, leveraging it but never leading it.

“My Lady Who Has Found The Tomb Unattended” is one of those tracks who give us that darkness back again, when previously some light was sneaking in. Doing some research it appears a dark tale, coming from poetry is what leads the songs in this album.

The Gloaming gave us an album that one should invest more time in than one would expect at the first play. When digging deeper you get to see the details more and that is exactly where the refinement is. No quick fixer, worth the time that needs to spend on it to get the most out of it.
