[schema type=”review” name=”Soilwork – Verkligheten” description=”Label: Nuclear Blast” author=”Sabine van Gameren” pubdate=”2019-01-11″ ]Swedish band Soilwork needs no introduction. They have made their name quite clear. A new album from their hands hits the market of which they took their time to make it, “Verkligheten” is available now.
A couple of months ago we received an album of Hespera, a small Soilwork old-style reunion was there and brought back the golden days of “Natural Born Chaos”. However Soilwork self is not too much nostalgic as their latest release does not come too close to that.
What you can expect, like always, is a great amount of energy in the music. Melodics are even more present than before and everything seems a bit more structured and has slightly more time to shine. Songs like “The Ageless Whisper” are quite catchy but when the guys introduce Tomi Joutsen of Amorphis into the album on the song “Needles and Kin” they have a great moment full of power to give. Perhaps one of the greatest moment in the album.
The band has a new drummer, Bastiaan Thusgaard which has the tough job to fill the shoes of Dirk. He does it well, but never goes overboard with it, seems like a good fit to the band. It seems a bit like the band is to reinvent themselves, but with many years on the counter they are delivering a quite fine album while doing that.
Line up:
