Bismut – Schwerpunkt

[schema type=”review” name=”Bismut – Schwerpunkt” author=”Sabine van Gameren” pubdate=”2018-12-27″ ]Bismut is a Dutch formation making instrumental music. Think: post rock going indie. The band recently released their album “Schwerpunkt”.

The whole started with some jamsesseions and that free spirit is something that comes forward well withing the four tracks of the release. Easily they let a flow go toward a wilder highlight and bring it back for another part to kick in flawlessly. No vocals coming in have the benefit that you can really dig into the sound and let the whole come to you.
The guitars are most leading, but throughout the tracklist it never starts to bore, the tensionbuilding is there, but simply not always is it about that, but simply to entertain and just to play. Skillfully they are put into the song while drums are sometimes a bit too much behind perhaps. Those could maybe be a bit daring having more shine as well. But with that they could also brought in a bit more groove, having that base a bit thicker.

Minor details that could be worked on. One thing is for sure and that this album appears to be one that you most vividly experience when seen live. “Schwerpunkt” is nice to have back home, but mostly makes you want to go to some small club and see this happening live.
