Needlepoint – The Diary of Robert Reverie

[schema type=”review” name=”Needlepoint – The Diary of Robert Reverie” description=”Label: BJK Music ” author=”Sabine van Gameren” pubdate=”2018-06-01″ ]Needlepoint is a Norwegian band makingsome psychedelic rock combined with jazz, a true 70’s feel. The band released “The Diary of Robert Reverie” recently.

The first thing come to notice is the artwork, a remarkable choice to make, but very suitable for the album. The stories of Robert Reverie are central on this release. A theme that is there, but not completely owns the album. There is more to it. Mainly, the album is one you will remember for its instrumentals. Not straying too far from the stereotypical sound that I would expect from the 70’s. Although when the guys are going into their wildest mode they do remind me slightly to Jimsonweed.
The guitars are an interesting part in the release. They do have surprising elements in almost every song, making just that choice you would not expect, making it pleasant to listen to, a road full of discoveries. Vocalwise it is maybe a bit harder to get impress but that has also to do with the fact that the words are not the spotlight element here. It is there to support the music but it does not carry it. The lyrics are to be found in the artwork which, as mentioned before, is a true add to the experience of Needlepoint’s release.

“The Diary of Robert Reverie” listens well, an album you need to give some attention and should not fade away in a background as then you simply won’t take the most out of it. Give it a couple of spins, spend your rainy Sunday afternoon with Needlepoint and enjoy Robert’s stories.
