Beady Belle – Dedication

Beate reminds me to that one Danish act I loved so much back in the days: Aphrodesia. Though, this music is perhaps a bit more calm and serene. A bit of 2018 in there also makes that the album is not only very easy to listen to but also keeps you interested as the influences of different ages are mixed with nowadays sounds.

Also a big pro of this release is the way the instruments support the vocals. It is never going over one other but remains in good balance and strengthen eachother. It’s nice to see that nothing disappears in the background and it opens your attention towards the details that are into the music. The refinement. Which is also the point that could be a bit against it. When you allow this music to be in the background you lose the details and it becomes blend, so it is truly the music that you need to listen to with some attention.

Overall the album is much in one line. Never does Beady Belle stray too far from where she comes from, so in that way it is a safe release. Here and there some more risk taking would have hyped it up, but we can say that this pleasant voice brings enough to keep you occupied for a while. Fine release.

‘Can You Smile’ is de waardige afsluiter en bevat voor een gospelnummer aardig wat vurig orgelwerk. Lech eist dit nummer op, maar het is jammer dat voor de verwachtte uithaal het refrein al komt, waardoor je de magie verliest die is opgebouwd. Na het beluisteren van het laatste nummer ben je gek genoeg alweer vergeten hoe het album begon. Dit is positief bedoeld: je hebt sterk de neiging om nog eens te gaan luisteren. Al met al is het een heel mooi, uitgesponnen album zonder uitspattingen en dat maakt het geschikt voor een rustig avondje thuis.
