“Brainstorm” is German power metal creature in the age of almost thirty. The productive quintet released the 12th studio album “Midnight Ghost” since 1989.
Wikipedia describes them as the band known for playing style of music that darker than most power metal groups. Well, let’s see. The first evidence of this theory is the album cover. The scared kid hides under blanket with flashlight but dozen of creepy creatures surround and try to hurt him. The second and the last sign of dark power metal is lyrics that are bedtime creepy stories and cold-blooding tales for adults.
What about music? Since the first accords, the power metal hooks you up. Classic power metal includes all attributes of genre like speed, complex and melodic guitar riffs, “clean” high vocals and back-vocals. Some tracks should be mention as key tracks. These are “Ravenous Minds”, “Divine Inner Ghost” and “The Four Blessings”. “Ravenous Minds” is a headliner of the album, which consists commercial vibes and anthem-like odor. “Divine Inner Ghost”, perhaps, is darkest track on the album that combines mystic plot, keen melody and catching refrain. Having its own character “The Four Blessings” is not familiar with other tracks, not such melodic and powerful but edgy and thoughtful. “Jeanne Boulet (1764)”, in contrary, the most melodic track, some kind of ballad, tells the story about agony of being haunted due approximately eight minutes.
Resuming ten tracks, no doubts, “Brainstorm” is definitely good storyteller. Arrangement by classy power metal doubles effects. Hold the torch and light your way up, dark times are coming.
