Donots is a punk rock band from Germany, formed in 1993 in Ibbenbüren. The name of the band came into being by chance: The bassist of the band, Jan-Dirk Poggemann wanted to name the band like the pastries donuts, but he wrote the name the wrong way by mistake. The other band members liked the name, because they found their philosophy in the name (donots = do nothing, like slackers), so they retained the name. The band occasionally calls itself “Ibbtown Rockers” on account of its provenance. Their upcoming album, The Long Way Home, was released on 26 March 2010. The first single, “Calling”, from their new album was released on 03 December 2009 on the band’s MySpace site and a video on Youtube followed on 22 January 2010.
Donots new album “The Long Way Home” is a great album for the masses, meaning as in being played in front of masses because it is meant to sing and shout along. Slow and faster songs, all is to be found on “The Long Way Home”, all very catchy and perfect for being played on the radio or on MTV. “Calling”n is a typical song for being played in arenas. “Forever Ends Today” is a slower track. “Dead Man Walking” has an acoustic beginning and reminds of some big and old punk rock songs. After all these years Donots know how to please our ears. The booklet design is very interesting as well: You can find many band pictures in there, also fun pictures where they are caught in the net of a spider or on a paper airplane and such. All put together very neat. The lyrics can also be found in the booklet. “The Long Way Home” is a great rock album just waiting for you to play it.
