Krypteria, a gothic metal band with female vocals, released their latest album “My Fatal Kiss” via Roadrunner Records.
The first couple of seconds are still promising but question marks rise as soon as the vocals come in. Will that person that grabs her throat please let her go? It sounds like someone is trying to kill her while she is singing and she has not found the strength to get over it. Very few variations in the vocals, the missing strength to either set something powerful as it seems like they attempt to do or go into the clichés of the genre with soprano vocals. Instrumentally, the music is much more interesting, wouldn’t it be interesting to hear the whole album without the vocals perhaps? Bass is prominent in combination with some decent riffing it makes it bearable, makes this album more than a nicely decorated frisbee.
The band should realize that the true music fans not only go for the pretty face, but prefer a decent voice as well and this just doesn’t stand out over the average. For now Krypteria did not warm me up. Not much more than a local band, so why should this band be signed to Roadrunner Records?
