Taking Dawn is an formation from USA making rock/metal with a whole lot of catchiness. Their release “Time To Burn” is now out in Europe.
The Americans have a sound comparable with Shinedown versus 80’s rock. The opening of the album comes in nice, catchy, a bit sleazy but not too much. Got to sit up straight and observe that, discovering some interesting riffs in between the sing-a-long choruses. It is clear this band will bring a huge live sensation. Unfortunately most of the songs have a lot in common, which makes me think that I have heard these songs before, while I am only halfway the record. A bit diversity might have done good for them. A ballad that sets them in the sights of a larger audience is something not unthinkable for this band to do. Various bands like them, have done this and with this missing out on the album they leave a chance open and unused.
Nevertheless, this is an album that people who have a big heart for that 80’s rock music can easily buy without thinking too much of it. It gives plenty to please them and it is not unthinkable that you run to their MySpace to check when and where their next gigs are to see if you can catch that live.
