Releasedate: 03-02-2010; Label: 3rd Rail Music

These guys were born in the 70’s, grew up as teenagers in the metropolitan area of Helsinki in the 80’s to tunes laid by Black Sabbath, Metallica, Guns N’Roses, Hanoi Rocks, Misfits and AC/DC among others as well as getting wasted and laid along the way, made a bad reputation for themselves in the 90’s by their obnoxious behaviour, paid their dues in the new millennium and is now ready to take the world by storm with the new decade. These are the guys who made their teachers go crazy and their schoolmates go wild. Self-proclaimed soulful hard rockers from Helsinki, Sonic Roots release its first full length album “Kill Street Blues” on 3. February 2010, finally.

Sonic Roots finally released their debut album. Several songs we know already from the EP and of course from the live shows, but there were also several songs on this album that I had not heard before. The first song “Pharaos Don’t Sleep Tonight” starts out with a great bass line and some oriental sounds on the intro. All songs have very catchy tunes, are making you sing and move along and have really deep lyrics. “Sound Of Mind” is a very catchy song with great guitar riffs and solos. The bridges are slower than chorus and verses. Really great. “Pusherman” has a quite steady beat and melody yet doesn’t get boring because you keep on discovering new stuff on this song. “Angels In The Dark” is a strong and ass kicking song. “Poison Wine”is a very soft and emotional song. A touchy and strong voice pierces your right in the heart. “Obscene Medicine” has a little bit of a trashy sound, a great Rock’n’Roll groove with awesome vocals. “Junkie Girl” is one of the catchiest songs where you can’t stop yourself from going along. You will have it stuck in your head for long. “Shadow In Your Head” is another very touchy and slow song. “Take You High” sounds a little darker than the other ones. “Rising Power Of Needs” is simply awesome. So deep . “Trashy Morning” is a totally odd one for an album closer: “Trashy Morning” is a totally catchy song that you will definitely sing and boogie along. Sonic Roots put some awesome arrangements on this album. The singer has an awesome voice and each musician knows his instrument perfectly well. Even though this is “just” a studio album, you can tell that they are great musicians. Sonic Root’s “Kill Street Blues” is definitely one of the best albums 2010 has to offer.
