Tonight we went to Batschkapp because Blue October was stopping by on their “I Hope You’re Happy” tour. Blue October is an American alternative rock band originally from Houston, Texas. The band was formed in 1995 and currently consists of Justin Furstenfeld (lead vocals, guitar), Jeremy Furstenfeld (drums, percussion), Ryan Delahoussaye (violin/viola, mandolin, piano, backing vocals), Matt Noveskey (bass guitar, backing vocals), and Will Knaak (lead guitar).
The venue was crowded as Blue October entered the stage. With dim lights, the band came on and slowly began playing their first song. The audience went along instantly. Soon it felt like a big family reunion. The singer seemed so familiar with the audience and talked with them between the songs as if they were old friends. And in a way they were.
Everyone in the venue tonight has been listening to Blue October for a long time. So they knew about the struggles the signer had and overcame, because that is what the music is about: The intimate life and a raw insight into Justin’s soul. Blue October played a good mix of old and new songs. Each of the band members was rocking along to the music, taking over the stage, moving around and completely being in their element. It was a pleasure watching them perform.
