Freaky prince of electronic dance and pop music Chris Corner and his like-minded bandmates; Madame Gezang, Sammi Doll, and Jon Siren returned back in Istanbul after 7 years as the last leg of their European tour “Alive in New Light ’18” and they sure came with a bang!

The venue was in vibrant part of town named Beşiktaş and it had this club vibe rather than a concert hall which actually made things more sincere and wilder. The gig was not sold-out although the crowd got the best of the performance and went totally wild.

They started with the song whose name that is also the new album’s title; “Alive in New Light”. The crowd was more than pleased to hear the first note of the keyboard, so the show kicked off with a couple of new ones from the “AINL” album. Second song came soon which is called “Break the Chain”. It struck me with its darkness atmosphere but still exuberant, it also could have easily been a new Depeche Mode tune. After all, I have always been a fan of electronic infrastructure and pop vocals in a song.
At this point I need to talk about how unique Corner’s vocals/voice is. He has both fierceness and gentleness in his voice at the same time whether it’s live or recording. In two of the songs on the album; “Stalker” and “Stardust” guest vocals are done by the famed tattoo artist Kat Von D. In live versions, her vocals are covered by Madame Gezang.

His live vocals were so crystal clear and extremely professional, you always feel like you’re listening to something that is better than the record everytime you watch them live. Even though in the previous shows in Europe his voice chords had some trouble, he sang without effort. Other bandmates also gave their 110 % on the stage.

Nowadays, IAMX is preparing for their North America tour which is happening very soon, probably with a guest appearance by Kat Von D for a couple of songs on the stage. Fans in the US better get ready for a feast for their eyes and ears.
