Shaking Godspeed seems be the new sensation in The Netherlands. The fact that they quickly got their fame before the release of this vinyl took place, might not be that surprising as you hear the band came from the ashes of the band The Bloody Honkies.
The Bloody Honkies got quite some name in the country, Shaking Godspeed thought, can’t be seen as version 2.0. Yes, there is still the bluezy sound in the music and the raw edges here and there, but the band seems to adopt that dirty, sneaky temptation in a little teases every here and there. A little more intensity would be much appreciated though. When listening to this release you have the feeling that especially vocal wise there is much more to achieve than is to hear now. That gives a bit of a bitter taste on the tongue, it is raw and somehow a bit nostalgic to listen to the self titled album, but the feeling that there is more is disappointing you. Of course, the release of this album came quite soon after the formation of this band got into the world. So perhaps on the next release this bitter taste turns into something better and will you fully enjoy it.
