Julien-K is a music group that began as a side project for electronic music created by Amir Derakh and Ryan Shuck from Orgy, with the later addition of Brandon Belsky, Elias Andra, and Anthony ‘Fu’ Valcic. Their debut album, Death to Analog, which was mixed by Tim Palmer, was released on March 10, 2009 in the U.S., and later on March 5, 2010 in Europe.
This album is very electric but also has a big focus on guitar in the sound. Thriving and energetic the songs get you going along, even if you’re sitting on your couch when listening to it. Very electric or even mechanical are some songs. “Technical Difficulties” for example sounds like a machine, not only because of the distorted voice. The singer of Julien-K has a great voice. He uses it in several different ways. A somehow outstanding song is “Systeme de Sexe”, the rhythm of this song reminds of your heartbeat, the electro samples on these songs are very catchy as well, a great song. My favorite on the album probably is “Forever”. “Spiral” is the most danceable song, it is somewhere between pop and electro. “Nvr Say Nvr” has an outstanding bass line. The vocals on this one are very low. “Dystopian Girl” is another very thriving song that makes you dance along. All songs on this album are great and catchy, hard to get out of your mind because they get stuck big time in no time. I hope to have Julien-K on Europe tour soon, maybe even invading some festivals here. “Death To Analog” is a gorgeous electro album with rock guitars and band, catchy, energetic, powerful and positive. Great vibes fill the room when listening to it, so I can only imagine how great they will be live. This album is definitely a new one in my list of all time favorites. Awesome!
