Wintermond – Desiderium

Releasedate: 29-01-2010; Label: Danse Macabre Records
By: Nina Mende

Wintermond is a German gothic band from Münster founded in 2004. “Desiderium” is their third album but the first one with an official label.

Somewhere between metal and medieval the songs are swinging back and forth like a pendulum. The female vocals are high pitched but also sing in normal tunes whereas the male voice stays in a normal tune. The music is mainly slow paced. Only a few songs are harsher and more metal like. The medieval touched songs remind of the medieval market square music with bagpipes and the juggler music they always had. All lyrics are in German, sad and gloomy, dark and pushing down on your chest making it heavy. The booklet as well as the album layout are held very dark as well. The lyrics talk in images, not straight forward but make you think about. I think you could say they cause a melancholic stage of thinking if you do think about them. “Desiderium” is a deep dark album, a winter album without any sunny sound of joy or happiness. If you are a neutral Goth or like to mourn, I am sure you will like this album. Or if you like medieval music this album will be great for you as well.
