Axel Rudi Pell is the name of the heavy metal guitarist who brought various albums to the world. Under this name he released fourteen full length studio albums, various compilations and now the second DVD is about to release.
“One Night Live” is filmed at Rock of Ages festival where 5000 people watched them play. In the first shots of the performance you get to see the stage where drummer Mike Terrana getting behind his drums. The show starts calm, audience is not really alive in the first two songs and the show does not set warm blood for me either. Second song “Strong As A Rock” knows too much repeating of the same words and of course there is the focus for the guitar, it is not before the medley starts that the show gets atmospheric. And then it all changes. The band seems to feel this more and it becomes suddenly more interesting to watch.
In the drum solo you get to see Mike Terrana enjoying himself with his colossal drum kit. After that, the rest of the band returns on stage to play the rest of the concert. The dvd is edited quite well. The shot’s are not flashing by too soon which gives the eye the time to capture what is going on before moving to the next camera position. Towards the end of the DVD you get more into the atmosphere that Axel Rudi Pell brings and reminds you that this Heavy Metal act is one you don’t have to skip when it is your festival line up.
